the sectional

as soon as we moved into the house, we knew we wanted to find ways to invite as many people as possible into the doors, but we also wanted to have the space for it. hence the sectional.

i found it at a garage sale for a ridiculously low price. it was perfect, and is still -- to this day - one of my most proud purchases. we hauled her into the living room and rearranged nearly a hundred times to find the best fit. and the rest is history.

the couch has been the host of movie nights, game days, dates, crafts, and many guests have used it as a bed. it is a place for naps, for watching project runway or bluey with the roommates, for cramming together, for deep conversations into the a.m., for cuddles, for confrontations. it is the place where the introvert can sit at the party and talk to the one other person they know. and it is the place where people sit, shoulder to shoulder, and do life together.

one of my favorite kinds of moments always happens on the sectional. â€‹

there is a kind of comfort and unity that comes from sitting shoulder to shoulder on a comfortable space. it always produces, if you sit there long enough, a kind of peaceful and open space where people can just be.

at the end of a party, the people that linger, not wanting to go just yet, experience this feeling. the candles are dwindling, snacks are gone, and the world has gone quiet. but this is where the best conversations happen. the same thing happens even with the people who live here. more times than i can count, we all sit on the couch at the end of a long day, come together, and simply exist together. sometimes we talk, sometimes we don't. sometimes things are serious, sometimes our sides hurt with laughter. but, regardless, we always come away a million times closer than before.
